GED Graduation Honors 385 Local Students

More than 385 students who have completed the General Educational Development (GED) test between June 4, 2010, and May 19, 2011, will be recognized during graduation ceremonies scheduled for May 20, at the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center on the Idaho State University campus. The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m.

           Every year several students are selected to tell the story behind their pursuit of the GED and talk about the future.  Brian Lyons, Jeffrey Burke, and Alberto Cruz will share their stories and thoughts on receiving the GED.  Dr. Paul Peterson, Chair of the College of Technology’s Health Occupations Department, will provide the keynote address with Dale Belnap providing music and Larry Murillo offering the Prayer Song. Angela Boursaw, current ISU Energy Systems Technology and Education Center student, will receive the Honorary Linda Ostin Award for Outstanding Alumni Achievement.            

           Accepted START recipients will be acknowledged at graduation. START is funded through a grant from the J.A. and Kathryn Albertson Foundation. Forty graduates will receive the honors recognition for receiving a score of 600-649 and 21 will receive high honors recognition for having a score of 650 or above. The individual who earns the highest score is eligible to earn the General Education Department scholarship.
            Graduates have completed their GED through the ISU Adult Success Center; ISU outreach centers in American Falls, Blackfoot, Montpelier, Preston, and Soda Springs; the Pocatello Women’s Correctional Center;SEICAA; Fort Hall; High School Equivalency Program; MK Place; and the Bannock County Youth Development Center.
