The Idaho State University Beta Rho Chapter of Phi Upsilon Omicron (Phi U) Honor Society was honored to host the Phi U National President, Corine Carr.

Carr, who visited in September, spoke to the "Principles of Community Nutrition" class about her experiences as a registered dietitian, including her work with children with diabetes in Kazakhstan. Later that day she presented a leadership workshop to members of the ISU chapter of Phi Upsilon Omicron, Beta Rho and other students belonging to dietetics, family consumer science, and early childhood education majors.

Later that evening a dinner was held in Carr's honor. Many local Phi U alumni and current members were in attendance as well as two other national officers residing in the area, Jenniene Kauer, Phi U national alumni councilor and ISU Family and Consumer Science instructor, and Jenifer Reader, Region Councilor Chair. Carr spoke about the opportunities and privileges that come through membership in Phi U.

Phi U, a member of the Association of College Honor Societies, is a service-oriented honor society for family and consumer science and related majors. Phi U provides members with many opportunities, including scholarships, writing and research awards, and involvement in service and professional projects that promote the health and well being of the community.

The Beta Rho chapter of Phi U has been on the ISU campus since the early 1970s. The chapter has received several national and regional awards for their professional projects to the community. Thousands of dollars have also been awarded to local members over the years in the form of scholarships, fellowships and awards.
