El Korah Shriners and ISU-Meridian host free screening for children with orthopedic conditions, burns and spinal cord injuries

The clinic is Saturday, Oct. 1,  9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at the Idaho State University-Meridian Health Science Center, 1311 E. Central Drive in Meridian, on the north side of I-84 between Locust Grove and Meridian roads.

Volunteer physicians, assisted by ISU-Meridian faculty and students in the accelerated nursing and physician assistant studies programs, will screen children and teens under age 18 for a variety of conditions, including orthopedic and spinal cord injuries, burns,  and cleft lip and palate.  Communication sciences faculty and students will conduct free hearing and speech-language screenings.

The screening's purpose is to evaluate children for free treatment at a Shriners Hospital for Children in the northwest, said Ron Lester, El Korah Shriners spokesman.  Reimbursement for patient and guardian travel is available based on need.

"The Shriners of El Korah Temple are excited to work with the staff at ISU-Meridian to present this annual screening clinic. The facilities at ISU Meridian and the wonderful staff and leadership offer a level of medical professionalism," said Lester.

 Shriners Hospitals for Children is a 22-hospital system dedicated to improving the lives of children by providing pediatric specialty care, research and training for medical professionals, according to Lester.
