Idaho State University announces changes to parking policy

After gathering input from the community, Idaho State University officials have announced that parking on campus will remain free on weekends when new parking regulations go into effect Aug. 1. Campus visitors will also be allowed to park on campus for free after 4 p.m. on weeknights, unless otherwise posted.

“Idaho State University welcomes members of the community to come and enjoy our campus,” said Libby Howe, director of University Relations. “We want everyone to feel comfortable and at home using our facilities.”

New parking regulations include increased parking fees for faculty, staff and students. The new permit prices are in line with fees charged at sister institutions, and are one of the revenue streams identified to meet the anticipated $11 million shortfall in fiscal year 2011.

Faculty, staff and students can purchase a reduced-fee permit to park in two designated lots at Holt Arena.

Faculty, staff and students who park on campus to work and attend class in the evenings will be required to purchase a permit.  Faculty, staff and students are the primary users of ISU’s parking facilities. This distributes the parking load to all faculty, staff and students regardless of the time of day they utilize the facilities.  

During daytime hours, campus visitors will be required to have a day pass or use the meters, just as in the past. Some events will have parking arrangements available for attendees. Day passes are available for $4 at the Parking Office at the ISU campus on Humboldt Street and at the information booth on Cesar Chavez Avenue.
