Women’s Leadership Summit provides opportunities for teens

A group of 40 to 50 girls from various local high schools, from Preston to Rexburg, will attend “The Women’s Leadership Summit” at Idaho State University on May 22-23.

This free, overnight summit is sponsored by the ISU Janet C. Anderson Gender Resource Center.

The conference will highlight the experiences of women in leadership roles throughout the state including: scientists, athletes, politicians, and women with nontraditional careers. This conference was generously funded through a campus action grant through the American Association of University Women.

Attendees will learn about pursuing leadership roles within their communities, and about college preparation and readiness. They also will learn about the importance of science, technology, engineering and math literacy. Conference organizers seek to increase the number of young women who are actively involved in community leadership and enroll in college.  This conference will provide an opportunity for young women to consider attending college and explore new avenues to leadership roles.

The conference begins Friday morning, May 22, with registration and an informal welcome reception, followed by breakout sessions and team-building sessions. The conference will continue on Saturday, May 23, with breakout sessions on college readiness, career counseling, a keynote speaker and lunch. Attendees are required to attend all conference events.
