Women and Work Conference scheduled March 11 at Idaho State

The ninth annual Idaho State University Women and Work, “Opportunities in Trades and Technology Careers,” conference will be held March 11, 2009. The conference, sponsored by the ISU College of Technology Center for New Directions, will be held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Pond Student Union Ballroom, 1025 S. 8th Avenue, Pocatello.

Why should women consider nontraditional careers? Higher wages, better benefit packages, well defined career ladders, and more can be yours. The Women and Work Conference gives women an opportunity to gain information through workshops, speakers, networking and exposure to local training and educational resources. The conference will feature career exploration, workshops, a nontraditional fashion show, and keynote speaker; Shannon Larson, a forensic scientist with the Idaho State Police R5 Forensic Laboratory.

Attendees will have the opportunity to choose from the following workshops:

•    Virtues for Success – Transform your ability for success in school and in your career.

•    Women in Science Panel – Get insider information. Learn what is like to work as a scientist from a panel of women who currently work in the field.

•    Got Money? –Reveal the mysteries of money.

•    Journal Making – Learn how to develop a creative place to express you.

•    Mapping the Maze – Get help working through the steps you need to take to get into college – applying, financial aid, scholarships, and more.

•    Trades: Electricians, Painters, Pipefitters and more! – Discover what the trades have to offer and the opportunities available in these nontraditional fields.

•    Shameless Self Promotion – Ever wonder why some women get such good jobs and advance in their career?  Learn how to define and achieve your goals by finding out what you are worth and learn how to get the most money for your time.

The Conference fee is $20 for the general public and $9.50 for students. This fee includes a continental breakfast and luncheon. Scholarships are available.
