Theatre/Dance faculty receive Washington arts grant for SiteWorks 2009

Two faculty members in the Idaho State University Department of Theatre and Dance have received awards from the Washington State Arts Commission, Pierce County Arts Commission and Tacoma Arts Commission in support of SiteWorks 2009, a site-specific dance festival held in Washington.

 Josephine Garibaldi, ISU director of dance, and Paul Zmolek, adjunct dance instructor, received the awards. Garibaldi and Zmolek are the directors of the SiteWorks project in partnership with Washington’s renowned Museum of Glass and the BareFoot Collective.  The dance festival will take place this summer June 11–14.

The Thea Foss Waterway, Mount Rainer and the Tacoma cityscape will again serve as the beautiful backdrop to Siteworks 2009, the summer festival of site specific performances of professional contemporary dance and physical theatre at the beautiful outdoor plazas, reflecting pools and grand stairway of the Museum of Glass.

SiteWorks 2006, conceived and directed by Garibaldi and Zmolek was named as a Top 5 Art Event of the Year by The Tacoma News Tribune.

“We have been looking forward to the next incarnation of SiteWorks since its premiere in 2006,” Garibaldi said. “The Museum of Glass is one of those rare entities that showcases international artists while diligently working at grass roots efforts to provide local, community and interdisciplinary programming in support of regional artists. We have been extremely fortunate to have met the wonderful staff at the Museum and we look forward to building upon this partnership for years to come.”
