Registration period is open for National Girls and Women in Sports Day at ISU
January 14, 2009
The registration period is open for this year’s celebration in recognition of National Girls and Women in Sports Day that is scheduled Saturday, Feb. 28, at the Idaho State University Reed Gymnasium.
This national day has been proclaimed by Congress each year since 1987, and is honored annually the first week of February. National Girls and Women in Sports Day recognizes the progress of girls and women in sports, and the benefits that sport and fitness activities can bring to the lives of all girls and women. “Look Who’s Playing” is the national theme for this year’s day and serves to acknowledge the importance of sport participation for women and girls.
ISU’s celebration will include sport and activity clinics for girls grades K-6. Advance registration is $10 per girl on a first-come, first-served basis. There is a limit of 300 entrants. The registration deadline is Wednesday, Feb. 18.
Check-in and on-site registration will take place beginning at 8 a.m. in the Reed Gym lobby. On-site registration costs $15 per girl. The event will run from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. Girls will participate in three different sports or activity clinics, one every hour.
Registration and consent/waiver forms are available at the ISU College of Education, the Graduate School, Department of Sport Science and Physical Education, and the Campus Recreation Reed Gym office.
The event is sponsored by various ISU student groups and departments including the Physical Education Major’s Club – SHEPERD’s (Students of Health Education, Physical Education, Recreation and Dance), the College of Education, the Graduate School, the Department of Sport Science and Physical Education, the Department of Health and Nutrition Sciences, Campus Recreation and Athletic Department.
