Idaho Museum of Natural History opens exhibit on Darwin’s ‘green side’

The idaho Musuem of Natural History will open a new monthly exhibit in February, "Darwin’s Green Side: Discoveries in Evolutionary Botany," to celebrate the 200th birthday of Charles Darwin.

Charles Darwin (1809-1882) is best known for his theory of evolution by natural selection, published in “On the Origin of Species” in 1859. Darwin published 19 other books, many devoted to plant adaptation as evidence for his theories. This exhibit highlights Darwin’s groundbreaking work on carnivorous plants, plant movement, and pollination. It is presented in conjunction with Darwin Day, an international celebration of science and reason held on or around Darwin’s birthday, Feb. 12.

The exhibit opens on Monday, Feb. 2, at 7 p.m. as part of the ISU Gallery Walk. The Gallery Walk is free and open to the public and features exhibits in each of ISU’s galleries including the Transition and Mind’s Eye Galleries in the Student Union, the John B. Davis Gallery in the Fine Arts Building, and the Oboler Library.
