The Idaho State University Janet C. Anderson Gender Resource Center and the Family Service Alliance has announced that the sixth annual “Walk A Mile in Her Shoes” fundraiser in recognition of Domestic Violence Awareness Month will be held Oct. 7 in Idaho Falls and Oct. 8 in Pocatello.

For the first time, the walk will be held in Idaho Falls from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Oct. 7 at the Bennion Student Union at University Place.

Then, on Oct. 8, the Pocatello walk will run from 4 to 6 p.m., starting on steps of the Bannock County Courthouse (624 E. Center) and ending on ISU’s Hutchinson Quadrangle.

The walks serve as a challenge for the men of Southeastern Idaho to stand up (if they can) in a pair of high heels and walk to end domestic violence in our communities.

Domestic violence is a prevalent problem. According to a 1998 study by the Commonwealth Fund, nearly one-third of women report being abused by a male partner during their lifetime.

All proceeds from this event will be used for crisis work with victims as well as prevention and education activities.

If you are interested in walking individually or as a team or in volunteering, pledge sheets are available at the Anderson Center, Graveley Hall North Room 114, at Family Services Alliance at 355 S. Arthur, or online at www.isu.edu/andersoncenter.
