ISU GIS Center to celebrate GIS Day Nov. 18 at Rendezvous Complex

The Idaho State University GIS Center and campus community will celebrate World GIS Day from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 18, at the Rendezvous Complex on the ISU Pocatello Campus.
There will be presentations, hands-on Geographic Information System (GIS) stations, food, a trivia contest and a host of raffle items.
An open house of GIS demonstrations and exhibits will run from 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. in Rendezvous Complex Suite B.
A variety of presentations will be held in Rendezvous Complex Suite A from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m., and then the Southeast Idaho GIS Users’ meeting will be held from 2 to 3 p.m. in Suite A.
In Suite C, the ISU Geospatial Club will host a student track again this year during GIS Day, running from 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. Topics will pertain to GIS, GPS, remote sensing applications and research. Information will also be available on ASPRS (American Society for Photogrammetry and Remote Sensing) student memberships. A raffle featuring $10,000 worth of prizes will be held. All proceeds from the raffle will go to the student club.
"Please join us for a fun-filled day to learn about Geographic Information Systems," said Keith Weber, director of the ISU GIS Center.
The ever-popular GIS Day Chili Cook-off will be back for the fifth year running. Participants can sample the delicious fare and vote for their favorite. Cornbread and drinks will be provided. The annual Chili Cook-off and awards presentation will be held from 12:30 to 1:45 p.m.
The raffle drawing and closing activities will be held from 3:30 to 4 p.m.
