Nontraditional careers a focus of Women and Work Conference

The eighth annual Women and Work Conference sponsored by the Idaho State University Center for New Directions will be Wednesday, March 5 in the ISU Pond Student Union Building. The Conference offers a range of informational events to demonstrate opportunities in trades and technology careers for women of all ages.

Conference registration and continental breakfast begin at 8 a.m. and conference programming begins at 8:30 a.m. with an inspiring keynote address by Amy Mercy, plant manager at the Great Western Malting Company. Conference participants will have an opportunity to participate in hands-on career exploration and hear from inspirational women currently working in nontraditional occupations, those in which 25 percent or less of the workforce are one's gender.

Workshops will offer information on employment in the trades as electricians, painters, pipe fitters; employment in Public Works; crime scene and forensic science; self-promotion; and the "Monster Under the Bed: Math."

The conference fee is $18 for the general public and $8.50 for students. This fee includes a continental breakfast and luncheon.Registration is due by Friday, Feb. 29.
