May 1, 2008
Karen Appleby, Ph.D., assistant professor in the Idaho State University sport science and physical education department, has been elected as vice president of Marketing for the National Association for Girls and Women in Sport (NAGWS).
During her two-year tenure in this position, Appleby is committed to increasing national attention for events such as National Girls and Women in Sports Day, conducting a market analysis of NAGWS, and promoting networking among organization members.
“The National Association for Girls and Women in Sport promotes research, scholarship, events and activities to get more girls and women involved in sports and physical activities,” Appleby said. “I will be marketing not only for this organization, but also for institutions such as Idaho State University, that are vested in its goals.”
Idaho State University is among several universities and colleges that host National Girls and Women in Sports Day events. ISU has been hosting this event for 10 years, and its program has attracted hundreds of local participants.
“I hope to increase the collaborative efforts and the national exposure of events like Girls and Women in Sports Day,” Appleby said. “I’d also like to help connect students and professionals who support girls’ and women’s pursuit of athletic goals.”
