ISU student literary journal seeks submissions; to hold writing events March 1

The staff at Black Rock and Sage, Idaho State University’s student literary journal, will host a contest and several writing events this spring.

On March 1, the staff will host a Write-a-Thon from 1 to 5 p.m in Room 213 of the ISU Rendevous Complex. Hash out a novel, short story, a series of poems or any other creative work. Prizes will be awarded to the writers who generate the most words.

An Open Writing Workshop is scheduled for March 1 from 1 to 3 p.m. in the Cyber Café of ISU’s Rendevous Building. A gathering of writers from the community will meet to exchange, read and discuss one another’s writing projects and endeavors.

Both events are open to the public and free of charge and snacks will be provided to keep the momentum going.

Black Rock and Sage is announcing it’s first annual Prose Writing Competition. Creative works of up to 5,000 words will be accepted and all entries will automatically be considered for publication in the journal. The first place winner will receive $100, publication in the magazine and a contributor’s copy. The entry fee for submissions is $5.

The staff will also be accepting regular submissions until March 21. Fiction and non-fiction lengths of up to 5000 words can be submitted as well as up to five poems. Submissions are open to all currently enrolled ISU students.

The deadline for both regular and contest submissions is March 21 and can be mailed, along with a self-addressed stamped envelope, to Black Rock and Sage, Campus Box 8056, Idaho State University, Pocatello, ID 83209.
