April 11, 2008
Idaho State University’s Japanese Club is hosting Japanese Night from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. Saturday, April 19, in the ISU Pond Student Union Ballroom.
This event will be the club’s fourth annual celebration of the Cherry Blossom Festival. All students, family and friends are invited to experience eight authentic Japanese dishes prepared by members of ISU’s Japanese faculty and ISU Japanese Club members and served by members of the Pocatello-Iwamizawa Sister City. Upon arrival attendees are welcome to enter the Ballroom where they can enjoy viewing items for sale and a slide show on Japan throughout the night. Dinner will be served at about 6 p.m. and entertainment will start at 7 p.m.
Entertainment will begin with a mikoshi (shrine) procession celebrating the arrival of the spirit of the festival. The “arrival of the spirit” will be heralded by the Japanese Club’s Taiko drum group, who will also perform additional pieces. Following will be judo and karate demonstrations, a Japanese Dance performance and a fashion show.
Tickets will be available April 14 to 18 from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the ISU Pond Student Union lobby. Tickets purchased in advance are $10 for adults. Tickets purchased at the door will also be $10.
