Idaho State University to co-host international nuclear-systems analysis workshop in Idaho Falls

A workshop that begins Monday, July 21, at University Place in Idaho Falls on the validation and verification of nuclear-systems analysis will put an international spotlight on eastern Idaho, says Idaho State University’s nuclear engineering department chair.

“This event will contribute to the enhanced recognition of eastern Idaho organizations – Idaho State University, Idaho National Laboratory and the Center for Advanced Energy Studies – as significant contributors to the international nuclear research effort," said George Imel, Ph.D.
Imel is chair of the Verification and Validation for Nuclear Systems Analysis Workshop, which is expected to draw upwards of 200 attendees.

They will focus on validating and verifying predictions of performance and safety parameters in extremes in which there is little or no experience and data.

International experts from Japan, Sweden, France, Italy, Russia, South Africa and the United States are scheduled to participate in and conduct sessions at the Verification and Validation for Nuclear Systems Analysis Workshop. The event will run through 25.

The V&V workshop is designed for nuclear professionals, students, and faculty who are interested in nuclear-systems analysis, a new field that is emerging as the next generation of nuclear power reactors is developed.The latest concepts, programs and results for verification and validation will be explored at the forum.Technical sessions will include: reactor physics, thermal fluid and multiphysics, fuels and materials, and data verification and validation methods.

Speakers for the technical sessions reflect a wide range of professional backgrounds, including university professors, private sector researchers, and national laboratory staff.The workshop’s sponsors are Idaho State University, the Center for Advanced Energy Studies, Idaho National Laboratory and North Carolina State University.
