Community dance workshops scheduled May 27-30

ISU Theatre and Dance will offer a free dance summer workshop May 27-30 open to the public that features guest artists Lisa Wymore and Sheldon Smith of the California-based Smith/Wymore Disappearing Acts Dance-Theater Company.
The workshop will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. at the Idaho State University Red Hill Building Studio, Room 103, on ISU Pocatello campus. Community members, artists, students and alumni are invited to attend the evening sessions free of charge. Participants can come for all or any of the individual sessions. No dance or theater experience is required.
There will be an informal showing of Wymore’s and Smith’s work Friday, May 30, at 7:30 p.m. in the James E. and Beverly Rogers Black Box Theatre in the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center. Admission for informal showing is free and it is open to the public.
The visiting artists will also be guest lecturers and instructors for students registered in a summer dance technique class.
Smith and Wymore’s work has won numerous awards including Best Interdisciplinary Performance and Best Use of Technology at Chicago’s PAC/Edge Festival 2004. They were nominated for Sexiest show at the 2005 Dublin Fringe Festival and were nominated for two 2006 Isadora Duncan awards for Best Choreography and Best Design. In 2006 their work was seen in San Francisco, Minneapolis, Zurich, and throughout the County of Donegal Ireland. Visit smithwymore.org for more information on this dance company.
