Boise’s Seddon named ‘Outstanding Educator of the Year’

Idaho State University alumna Carol Seddon, a retired teacher and former Boise State University professor currently living in Boise, was recently chosen as Outstanding Educator of the Year by the Idaho State University College of Education chapter of Kappa Delta Pi.

Kappa Delta Pi is an international honor society dedicated to promoting excellence in, and the recognition of, outstanding contributions to education.

Seddon taught for more than 40 years, which includes teaching at both the secondary and university levels in the fields of biological sciences, health information, and communication. She has taught in Idaho, Australia, Wisconsin, Illinois State University and Boise State University. Beyond teaching, Seddon was always strongly involved in researching, publishing, consulting and providing service on a diverse range of topics to various audiences.  

The majority of her teaching career was based at BSU in the College of Health Sciences and she was granted emeritus status at the time of her retirement in 2003. In 1988 Seddon was voted “Outstanding Instructor in Health Sciences” by the Associated Students of BSU. In 1993 she was named as the Idaho Health Information Management Association’s Distinguished Member.

Seddon was raised in Filer, Idaho. She earned a Bachelor of Science degree in biology and speech education from Idaho State University, a Master of Science degree in biology and science education at Oregon State University, and a certification in Health Information Management and National Registration from the American Health Information Association at Seattle University.  

She currently resides in Boise, and enjoys traveling, story-telling, theatre, walking, writing, playing the piano, shopping and spending time with friends and family. Seddon also enjoys continuing service to the community, church and Idaho schools.
