Sen. Crapo to address 50th Idaho State Tax Institute set Nov. 6-7

The 50th anniversary conference of the Idaho State Tax Institute will be held Nov. 6 and Nov. 7 in the Madeira Room of the Holiday Inn at 1399 Bench Road in Pocatello.

The event is sponsored by the Idaho State University College of Business, the Idaho State Bar Section of Taxation, Probate and Trust Law and the Idaho State Society of Certified Public Accountants.

More than 80 accountants and attorneys from throughout Idaho are expected to attend.

The conference will open at noon on Nov. 6. ISU President Arthur C. Vailas, Ph.D., will welcome the gathering and introduce Sen. Mike Crapo (R-Idaho) for an address on the tax policy outlook for the new U.S. Congress.

Thursday afternoon sessions will include remarks by the National Taxpayer Advocate’s Nina Olsen and a presentation on estate-tax implications for the single person by Gary Randall of Workland and Witherspoon, P.L.L.C.

Stephen L. Pruss of Ahrens & DeAngeli, P.L.L.C. will conclude the afternoon program with a look at qualified personal residence trusts and charitable lead annuity trusts.

The institute’s 50th anniversary celebration reception and dinner will follow beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the L.E. and Thelma E. Stephens Performing Arts Center.

The Friday morning session will be a three-hour presentation by Tom Ochenschlager, vice president-taxation of the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants. In the afternoon, a session on international tax and transfer pricing will be led by G. Michael Ransom Jr., of the J.R. Simplot Co. Donald L. Burnett Jr., dean of the University of Idaho College of Law, will present a segment on ethics to conclude the program.
