Counseling training seminars set in Coeur d’Alene, Boise, Pocatello

Idaho State University’s Department of Counseling will host a series of training seminars focusing on the challenges faced by counseling professionals in early October in Pocatello, Coeur d’Alene and Boise.

The series will be presented by Theodore P. Remley, Jr., Ph.D., J.D.

Training sessions will also be available at the following locations:  

•    Thursday, Oct. 2, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at KMC Main Facility, Kootenai Medical Center, 2003 Lincoln Way in Coeur d’Alene.

•    Friday, Oct. 3, 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at ISU Boise Center, 12301 W Explorer Drive, suite 102, room 107.

•    Saturday, Oct. 4, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at ISU’s Pocatello campus in Garrison Hall, Room 726.

Remley holds the Batten Endowed Chair in Counseling at Old Dominion University in Norfolk, Va., where he is the graduate program director of the master’s and doctoral counseling graduate programs. He has chaired the counselor licensure boards in Virginia and Mississippi, and has served on the board in Washington, D.C., and Louisiana. Remley has served as a school counselor, college counselor, U. S. Army officer, and has had a private practice in both counseling and law. He is a former executive director of the American Counseling Association.

The focus of the training will be on major challenges faced by counseling professionals, including the ethical and legal considerations in counseling clients who may be at risk for suicide and violence and avoiding unwanted court appearances, which often are very time consuming and disruptive to the work of mental health professionals.      

Registration fee is $100 for this event and registration is required. Seven contact hours are available.
