Scholars to address post-9/11 presidential powers

Five nationally renowned presidential scholars will lecture at Idaho State University on April 26 as part of a symposium, “Presidential Power and the Challenge to Democracy.”

The symposium, sponsored by the Associated Students of ISU and Pi Sigma Alpha, the political-science honor society, will meet from 9:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Wood River Room of the ISU Pond Student Union Building.

Scholars will examine the scope and development of presidential power since the attack on America on Sept. 11, 2001, and its consequences for constitutional principles and democratic values.

The participants, award-winning writers and instructors, include: professor Richard Pious of Barnard College and Columbia University; professor Loch Johnson, University of Georgia; professor Robert Spitzer, State University of New York, Cortland; professor Nancy Baker, New Mexico State University; and professor Nancy Kassop, State University of New York, New Paltz.

The symposium is free and open to the public.
