Music therapy workshop set June 18-19

Idaho State University will offer a music therapy workshop for mental health professionals June 18-19. It will introduce how music therapy is an effective way to treat children at risk and women who have been abused. The workshop will take place from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. at Garrison Hall.

Dr. David W. Luce, director or music therapy at Chapman University, will present the workshop. He uses listening, singing, playing, creating and improvising music for therapeutic purposes in his clinical practice. He is the president of the western region chapter of the American Music Therapy Association.

Profound emotional trauma can leave deep intra-personal and intra-psychic wounds. The two-day workshop will introduce the essential theoretical and clinical elements believed to make music therapy an effective, efficient and ethical treatment for such trauma.  The workshop sessions will include interactive discussions and musical experiences to demonstrate the various learning points.

The registration fee is $150. Professionals may receive one university credit for attendance or 15 contact hours.
