January 22, 2007
The Idaho State University Department of Music will present pianist Christine Burczyk Allen in a master class at 3 p.m. Feb. 1 in the Choir Room of the ISU Fine Arts Building in Pocatello.
The class is free and open to the public. Piano teachers and students in southeastern Idaho are particularly encouraged to attend. Several ISU piano majors will perform in the class and be coached by Allen.
Allen comes to ISU courtesy of the Idaho Falls Symphony Orchestra, which has engaged her to perform the following night, Friday, Feb. 2, in Idaho Falls. Allen will perform the Poulenc Piano Concerto with the orchestra at 7:30 p.m. in the Colonial Theater. For tickets to that concert, call the Idaho Falls Symphony Office at 529-1080.
Allen is currently assistant professor of music at Northwestern State University of Louisiana, where she teaches piano and related courses. She received degrees from NSU, Louisiana State University, and the University of Kansas, and has also studied in Poland. She is active as a concerto soloist, solo recitalist, and collaborative pianist.
