ISU names new vice president for finance and administration

Idaho State University has named James A. Fletcher, who has had a successful and varied career in academics and the private sector, as its new vice president for finance and administration.

Fletcher has served as vice chancellor of administration for the Texas A&M University System for the last six years. He previously served as vice president and chief financial officer for Howard University, vice president and chief financial officer for Morehouse College and, in an interim capacity, as vice chancellor for administration and finance for the University of Colorado, Boulder.

“This is a very exciting time for Idaho State University, a time of change with many great opportunities,” Fletcher said. “I am certainly looking forward to working with President Arthur C. Vailas and the whole ISU team to help realize these opportunities.”

Fletcher has a Bachelor of Science degree in aeronautics and astronautics from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology and a Master of Science, cum laude, in mechanical engineering from Fairleigh Dickinson University. He earned an MBA with Highest Distinction from Harvard Graduate School of Business Administration, where he received the George F. Baker Scholar Award, and a Legum Baccalaureus (Bachelor of Laws) from LaSalle University.

Fletcher served as a White House Fellow under the deputy director of the Office of Management and Budget in Washington, D.C.  He then worked in senior financial administration positions at the IBM and Unisys corporations.

Fletcher will begin his duties with ISU in early July.
