The Idaho State University Foundation has named three new members to its board of directors – H. Gene Hoge, DMD, of Pocatello, and James Kelly, PhD, and Roger Michener both of Boise –– who will assume their duties this October.

“I’m delighted to have these three new members on board and look forward to the positive contributions they will make in strengthening our board,” said Joseph Jensen, president of the ISU Foundation Board of Directors. “Dr. Hoge has done tremendous work in support of the Performing Arts Center, which I'm sure will continue. I'm also pleased to have these two strong representatives from the western part of the state, which is so important to us.”

The new board members will begin their official duties at the ISU Board of Directors annual meeting Oct. 4 during ISU’s 2007 Homecoming Week. The new members will serve three three-year terms.

“These are individuals who care deeply for Idaho State University and for its growth and improvement,” said Kent Tingey, DA, vice president for university advancement. “They’ve enjoyed a lot of success and they bring talents and skills to the ISU Foundation that will help it become even better and more effective in support of the University.”

Hoge is a retired dentist who has practiced in Pocatello from 1975 through 2006. He earned his undergraduate and D.M.D. degrees from the University of Oregon. Upon completion of dental school in 1971, he joined the Army, in which he achieved the rank of major and earned the U.S. Commendation Medal. He is a member of the American Dental Association, the Idaho State Dental Association, the Southeast Idaho Dental Association, and the Eagle Rock Study Club. Hoge is an active member of the Pocatello Rotary Club and will become Rotary District Governor in 2008. He was been active with the United Way, too. At ISU he was the president of the ISU Bengal Foundation and is a member of the Department of Dental Hygiene Advisory Committee. Hoge and his wife, Sue Ann, have been generous supporters of ISU.

Kelly is a former dean of the ISU College of Business. He joined the ISU faculty in 1967 and was dean from 1969 to 1982. Under Kelly’s guidance the College of Business received full accreditation in 1975.  Kelly currently is the Presiding Director and Chairman of the Audit Committee of Intermountain Industries, Inc., and currently serves on the ISU College of Business Advisory Council. Kelly and his late wife, Betty, have been generous supporters of ISU, predominantly to the College of Business, but also of several scholarship and memorial funds. They received an ISU President’s Medallion at the 2003 ISU Homecoming.

Michener and his wife, Barbara, founded Michener Investments and for 30 years have been active in real estate and have served on various real-estate committees and boards. Roger received his Bachelor of Science degree in physical education from ISU in 1966. He went on to earn a Masters of Education degree from the University of Idaho in 1968. He taught school, coached track and wrestling, and served in secondary education administration in Idaho for 10 years, mostly in the Magic Valley. He and his wife have been generous supporters of ISU and have an endowment in their name.

“I’m excited and pleased to be named to the Foundation Board of Directors, and I’m looking forward to the opportunity to serve Idaho State University,” Michener said, echoing the sentiments of other new appointees. “My alma mater has been very good to me and now I have an opportunity to give a little bit back.”
