Dr. Ed Guthrie named COT Technical Department chair

The Idaho State University College of Technology is pleased to announce that Dr. Ed Guthrie has accepted the Technical Department chair position effective June 18, 2007.

Having been in law enforcement for 32 years with additional teaching experience, Ed brings a wealth of knowledge to his new position. About his opportunity to work at ISU, he states, “I have always had a passion for education and knew it was going to be a second career. I am looking forward to serving the faculty and students. It is a good opportunity and it is good to be at Idaho State University.”

Guthrie holds a Doctorate Degree in Educational Leadership and Innovation from Wilmington College, New Castle, Delaware. Ed has held adjunct instructor positions at the Eastern Shore Criminal Justice Academy, Wor-Wic Community College in Salisbury, Maryland, and at Idaho State University. Courses he has taught include human resource management, supervisory development, Police and the Community, various entry level law enforcement lectures/classes, theories of supervision/management courses, and in-service training lectures/classes. He also served as a certified instructor for the Idaho Peace Officers Standards and Training Council.

Over the past several years, Ed has played an important role as the chairman for the ISU Law Enforcement program advisory committee and served as an instructor/lecturer for evening programs through Workforce Training. In addition, he provided in-service training for local businesses and training at the 2005 American Business Women’s Association annual conference. Ed was recently awarded the College of Technology Community Partner Award.

 “We are very pleased to have Ed assume a leadership role in the College of Technology. His extensive background in management and classroom experience will be valuable assets to our college,” comments Dr. Marilyn Davis, Dean of the College of Technology.

<>Guthrie will oversee programs in the Technical Department, providing certificate and degree options in Civil Engineering Technology, Computer/Business Equipment Technology, Computer Software Development Technology, Computerized Machining Technology, Computer Aided Design Drafting Technology, Electrical Technician and Geomatics Technology.
