Bengal Dancers win national hip-hop title in dance competition

The Idaho State University Bengal Dancers took home a National Championship in the hip hop division at the United Spirit Association (USA) College Dance Nationals held in Las Vegas on Feb. 11 and 12.
Finishing in second was Washington State University and in third was the University of Oregon. The Bengal Dancers finished in third place in the jazz division behind second-place USC and first-place UCLA.
In state rivals, Boise State, did not advance past the preliminary round in the hip hop or jazz divisions. Other Big Sky competitors were Sacramento State and Montana State, who also did not advance past the preliminary round in the Jazz division.
The Bengal Dancers have finished third in 2006, fourth in 2005, and fifth in 2004 at the USA College Dance Nationals in the jazz division.
The Bengal Dancers are now preparing for the National Dance Alliance (NDA) Collegiate Championship held in Daytona Beach, Fla., April 4-8. They will host a nationals farewell performance on Friday, March 31, at 7 p.m. Tickets are $3 at the door. The Bengal Dancers have finished second and won the Innovative Choreography Award in 2005 and 2006 at the NDA Championship.
Tryouts for the 2007-2008 Bengal Dancers will be held on Saturday, April 21.
