ISU Indian Night celebration set Nov. 10
November 1, 2007
The Idaho State University Association of Indian Students will host Indian Night on Nov. 10 from 6 to 9:30 p.m. in the ISU Pond Student Union Ballroom.
The theme of this year’s event is “India Rising,” and will feature authentic Indian food, a fashion show, traditional and modern dance and a slide presentation highlighting Indian history and culture.
Food to be served includes butter chicken, green pea curry, nine-jewel Kurma, mango lassi, as well as traditional Indian rice and salad dishes. Several vegetarian dishes will also be served.
This year’s Indian Night falls within the Diwali Festival of Lights, a Hindu holiday that celebrates the victory of good over evil, and the release of Lord Rama, the King of Ayodhya, from exile. A special Diwali dance will be performed in tribute to this holiday, as well as the India Navratri Festival dance, “Dandiya Raas.”
Hemant Vishwasrao, president of the Association of Indian Students, said that Indian Night will portray an assimilation of traditional Indian values and modern Indian society.
Tickets purchased in advance are $5 for students, $8 for faculty and staff and $9 for the general public. Children under 10 are free. Tickets will be one dollar more at the door. Tickets may be purchased at the PSUB Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 4 p.m.
