Professor to teach stage-combat workshops

Idaho State University will host Harris Smith, interim chair and head of the professional actor training program at the University of Nebraska – Lincoln, to teach a workshop for ISU and community schools’ in early January.
On Jan. 12, Smith will teach how to use rapiers and daggers and engage in unarmed combat to ISU Theatre and Dance students.
Smith will also visit three schools in Idaho Falls; Taylorview Junior High School, Idaho Falls High School and Skyline High School on Jan. 11. His visit to ISU is made possible through the Connie Smith Bowen Arts Series.
Smith is a member of Screen
Actors Guild and Actor’s Equity Association. He has performed Off-Off Broadway and at various repertory theatres and festivals throughout the United States including Nebraska Repertory, Utah Shakespeare Festival, Illinois Shakespeare Festival, St. Louis Black Repertory and Seattle Shakespeare Festival. He also has been in various feature films, television shows and commercials.
Smith has been fight director and movement coach for a number of theatre groups including Central Washington University, Illinois Shakespeare Festival, Whitworth College, Capital Repertory Theatre and Kraowskie Reminisencje Teatraine in Krakow, Poland.
Smith is a Society of American Fight Directors Certified Teacher of Stage Combat and a certified stuntman. He has received several awards, including Top Ranked Teacher at the University of Nebraska, Meritorious Achievement Award from the Kennedy Center American College Theatre Festival and Teacher Recognition Award at Central Washington University.
