O’Connell joins TechHelp; will assist east Idaho Manufacturers

Manufacturing Specialist, David O’Connell, has joined Idaho State University and TechHelp, Idaho’s Manufacturing Extension Center, to provide consulting services to manufactures and processors in Eastern Idaho. “David brings a depth of manufacturing and operations experience to TechHelp and is a wonderful addition to our team,” said TechHelp Executive Director, Gary Thompson. David will work out of an office at the ISU facility on Alvin Rickin Drive in Pocatello.
As a TechHelp manufacturing specialist, David will offer technical assistance, training and information to strengthen the competitiveness of manufacturers, processors and inventors through continuous product and process innovation. David was first exposed to advanced manufacturing processes early in his career while working at General Electric. That initial exposure instilled a passion for process and product improvement that still burns in David today. "I am excited about putting my experience to work helping Idaho companies improve their products and processes so they can more effectively compete in the global economy," said O’Connell.

David honed his manufacturing and operations skills during several assignments with GE's Aircraft Engine division. He deepened his breadth of experience in materials management, distribution, Lean enterprise and Six Sigma while employed at RE/MAX, Simplot and, most recently, Heinz in Pocatello where he was warehouse and production supervisor. At each stop, David was able to save company time and money by introducing efficient practices to the workplace. The opportunity to improve the competitiveness of Idaho manufacturers and processors by sharing his knowledge and experience drew David to TechHelp.

David received a Bachelor of Arts degree in Business from Mesa State College in Grand Junction, Colorado. He completed courses in Financial Management and Advanced Financial Management at General Electric. David received his Six Sigma Green Belt Certification while at Heinz.

Though David’s primary focus will be on companies in Eastern Idaho, he will be available for consultation in his areas of expertise statewide.
