Men to don high heels in Project Hope fundraiser

Idaho State University's Project Hope Advocacy Program will have men walking in high heels around Hutchinson Quadrangle Oct. 4 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. as a fundraiser to end sexual assault and violence in Pocatello.

The money raised will be used for prevention and awareness events in Pocatello and at ISU.

"There is an old saying that goes, 'You can't understand someone's experiences until you walk a mile in their shoes,'" said Kimberly Talbot, Project Hope coordinator and Janet C. Anderson Gender Resource Center assistant director.

"By walking a mile or more in women's shoes, these men will take a stand against sexual and domestic violence and show that all men can be part of the solution to end violence against women," Talbot said.

The men will complete laps around a designated paved area on the Quad and will accept pledges of 25 cents or more for each lap completed. Prizes will be awarded.

Project Hope is an advocacy program that provides supportive assistance to students, staff and faculty who suffer the effects of relationship violence, sexual assault, stalking or other crimes. Services include: a crisis and information line, 282-4673; support and referral service for survivors, family and friends; court or judicial system advocacy; internship, practicum and volunteer opportunities for ISU students, faculty and staff; and educational presentations on issues related to gender violence.
