ISU training workshop to help elementary teachers use ‘Mini-Society’ curriculum

Idaho State University will host a training workshop to instruct teachers grades 3-6 to implement the Mini-Society curriculum into their classrooms and earn two professional development credits.

To earn the credits teachers must attend both sessions and apply 16 hours of Mini-Society in the classroom. The workshop will be held at Century High School in Pocatello from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Oct. 6, and at Idaho State University College of Education Room 108 from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. A $55 registration fee is required.

"The Mini-Society is an experience-based instructional system targeted primarily for teaching entrepreneurship, economics, and citizenship concepts to students ages 8 to 12," said the Mini-Society Web site www.mini-society.com.

The Mini-Society has students create an economic community with guidance from the teacher. The students' ingenuity helps to create ways to deal with the economic issues of scarcity and the allocation of resources.
