Idaho State University associate professor of music Dr. John Masserini and assistant professor of dance Melanie Kloetzel recently performed at two prestigious national and international venues.

This Fall, Masserini and Kloetzel were invited to perform in Collision 2006 – an international conference on interarts research and practices at the University of Victoria in Victoria, British Colombia. They acted as headliners in an evening performance and presented a lecture on their collaborative work. Kloetzel and Masserini presented their piece “Icarus Fried.” This music and dance work was co-created by Kloetzel and Massereini with the dance movement for both of them choreographed by Kloetzel. The music was a clarinet work written by the contemporary American composer Joan Tower and performed by Masserini. Earlier this year the duo performed “It’s OK, No One’s Looking” in Pocatello.

Then they were invited to perform in Seattle, Wash., at the Northwest New Works Festival. Kloetzel and Masserini performed on the main stage of On the Boards in Seattle, one of the foremost venues for contemporary dance and performance art in the country. They were featured artists in the evening performances and received a favorable review in the “Seattle Weekly.”
