Fifteen talented vocalists from Idaho State University (ISU) showcased their skills at the National Association of Teachers of Singing (NATS), Southeast Idaho District Student Auditions hosted by BYU-Idaho on Saturday, November 18.
Impressively, eight of these singers advanced to the final round of the competition, marking a significant achievement.
To qualify for the final round, participants needed to attain a remarkable score of ninety or above, reflecting the high caliber of talent in contention. Making it to this stage was considered a victory in itself, emphasizing the competitiveness of the event.
Under the guidance of Dr. Geoffrey Friedley, ISU students Karson Goodworth secured first place, while Ethan Davis secured third place in their respective categories. Additionally, students mentored by Dr. Diana Livingston Friedley achieved outstanding results in their respective categories: Clarissa Juarez (second place), Madysen Stewart (first place), Sara Mackenzie (second place), Allysia Peine (first place), Becca Low (second place), and Miren Gabiola (first place).
All participants were required to prepare a diverse repertoire of at least three to four memorized pieces. Teachers who registered students also served as adjudicators, offering valuable feedback to all participants. The NATS student auditions provide a platform for aspiring vocalists to gain exposure, perform before industry professionals, and expand their repertoire.
