Meridian—Idaho State University’s Kasiska Division of Health Sciences, with programs in Meridian and Pocatello, has selected noted cancer physician Mark Roberts as the 2019 recipient of its annual Vice President for Health Sciences Excellence Award.
Dr. Roberts is currently the administrator for clinical research at St. Luke’s Health System in Boise.
ISU administrators say Dr. Roberts’ support has been instrumental in the education and training of students enrolled in the university’s health professions programs.
“Dr. Roberts has assisted with coordinating thousands of hours of practical experiences for ISU’s health professions students within the St. Luke’s Health System. From pharmacy students to family medicine residents to audiology and medical laboratory science students, we are grateful for the opportunities provided for our learners,” said Rex Force, ISU vice president for health sciences.
Force noted that community partnerships, such as those forged with St. Luke’s and other hospitals and clinics throughout the state, are vital to helping ISU fulfill its mission of educating the next generation of health professionals.
Roberts holds a medical doctorate from The University of Missouri, Kansas City and completed a pediatric residency at Children’s Mercy Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri in 1985. He went on to complete a fellowship in pediatric hematology and oncology at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital in Memphis.
In 2000, Roberts expanded his efforts to physician executive leadership positions emphasizing research and medical education. He has held positions at Long Beach Memorial Medical Center and Miller Children’s Hospital in Long Beach, California.
