Idaho State offers new Ph.D. in rehabilitation and communication sciences

MERIDIAN - The Kasiska Division of Health Sciences at Idaho State University will offer a new Doctor of Philosophy degree in Rehabilitation and Communication Sciences in fall 2019. The application deadline is Feb. 15.

The program—which will be offered in Meridian and Pocatello—is designed to increase the number of teaching faculty in the rehabilitation and communication sciences fields and enhance educational and research opportunities for current and future students, say program leaders. Those fields include audiology, occupational therapy, physical therapy and speech language pathology. 

“We currently have a shortage of academic faculty to train and lead our future students and health professionals (in the targeted fields). The new Ph.D. will allow us to do that,” said ISU-Meridian associate professor Gabe Bargen. She and Pocatello-based associate professor, Dan Hudock, are co-coordinators of the new program which was recently approved by the Idaho State Board of Education and the Northwest Regional Board of Accreditation.
