Idaho State University seeks Treasure Valley participants for intensive stuttering clinics in Meridian and Pocatello
July 16, 2015
Stuttering affects up to 4 percent of the world’s population and can lead to feelings of isolation, anxiety, depression and thoughts of suicide.
Idaho State University is offering two clinics this summer to help adults and children who stutter.
The first clinic is July 22-25 at ISU-Meridian, 1311 E. Central Drive, for children 12 and under. Youngsters will be broken into two age groups— pre-kindergarten through 7 years old and ages 8 through 12. The cost is $220 per child and includes clinic materials and activities.
The Pocatello clinic runs Aug. 1-15 and is for clients older than 15 years. The cost is $1,500 and includes food, lodging and materials. Partial and full scholarships are available based on financial need, thanks to the Brenda Malepeai Endowment and other donors.
The clinics will incorporate therapies to help adults and children become more effective and confident communicators as well as addressing the emotional effects of stuttering, said Dan Hudock, the director of ISU’s Northwest Center for Fluency Disorders.
To register for the Meridian clinic, call the ISU-Meridian communication sciences department at (208) 373-1725. For more information about the Pocatello clinic, contact Hudock at hudock@isu.edu or visit northwestfluency.org.
