Run for the Health of It event set for Sept. 14
August 27, 2014
Lace up your shoes and hit the Boise greenbelt Sunday, Sept. 14 for the annual Run for the Health of It 5k sponsored by the Professional Pharmacy Student Association at the Idaho State University—Meridian Health Science Center.
The event begins at 1:30 p.m. at the west entrance to Veterans Memorial Park at State Street and Veterans Memorial Parkway. To register, go to www.runsignup.com or click here.
Proceeds from the walk/run fundraiser will support the community outreach that ISU student pharmacists provide throughout Idaho.
“As student pharmacists, providing patient care allows us to develop the skills we need to become health care professionals—whether it’s providing flu shots and cholesterol screenings at a clinic or educating high school students about the dangers of prescription drug abuse,” said student pharmacist Amir Piranfar. “Our services are free of charge and benefit the Treasure Valley and Southern Idaho.”
At least 25 percent of the proceeds from the fundraiser will go to HODIA- Idaho Diabetes Youth Program. HODIA is a nonprofit organization that advocates for children and teens with Type 1 diabetes by sponsoring programs and camps that offer mentorship and support. The organization’s mission is to foster self-reliance and demonstrate that no one has to be limited by diabetes.
Registration fees are $25 through Aug. 31 and $30 from Sept. 1 through race day. There is also a silent auction and raffle after the race. Tickets can be purchased during race registration or in person at the race.
