Idaho State University seeks Treasure Valley participants for stuttering clinics in Meridian and Pocatello

Stuttering affects up to 4 percent of the world’s population and can lead to feelings of isolation, anxiety, depression and thoughts of suicide.

Idaho State University is offering two clinics this summer to help adults and children who stutter. The first is July 26-Aug. 9 on the Pocatello campus for people 13 and older. The clinic will combine behavioral therapies with  strategies to address the emotional effects of stuttering, says Daniel Hudock, an ISU assistant professor and director of the Northwest Center for Fluency Disorders.

The second clinic is Aug. 13-15 at ISU-Meridian for children 12 and under.  It’ll be  followed by a workshop Aug. 16 for family, community members and speech-language professionals who want to learn more about stuttering.

The Pocatello clinic costs $1,000 which includes food, lodging and materials. The  Meridian clinic is $100, including lunch and materials. Scholarships for both clinics are available based on financial need.
