July 18, 2013
Enjoy the music of Steve Eaton and Mike Sanders and help support the Idaho Food Bank’s Backpack Program at “An Evening with Eaton and Sanders,” Saturday, Aug. 10, presented by the Idaho State University Alumni Association.
The Backpack Program provides weekend meals for hungry school children. Representatives from the Food Bank will be on hand at the concert to distribute information about the program.
The concert is from 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m., at the Idaho Botanical Garden, 2355 N. Old Penitentiary Road, Boise. Gates open at 5 p.m. Admission is $20 per person. Order tickets and RSVP online at www.isu.edu/alumni/eaton.shtml. You can also attend the concert for free by taking 10 nonperishable items to the Boise area Idaho Food Bank, 3562 S. Tk Ave., before Aug. 9.
“The ISU Alumni Association is again excited to present this concert for our Treasure Valley alumni and friends. An ISU alumnus, Steve continues his connection and support for ISU. For many, this will be a walk down memory lane to enjoy the music of Steve and his former partner, Mike Sanders,” said K.C. Felt, ISU alumni relations executive director.
“To be able to continue our partnership with the Idaho Food bank for a third year is a bonus,” she added.
Eaton, who attended ISU in the 1970s and now lives in Boise, has performed with Carole King and written songs for The Carpenters, Art Garfunkel and Lee Greenwood. He has received two Emmy nominations for original music created for PBS television specials and has written music for the Nature Conservancy, National Wildlife Federation and the National Endowment for the Arts, according to Eaton’s official website.
In the 1980s, Sanders won a national country music competition and landed a writing and recording contract with Mary Tyler Moore’s MTM record label in Nashville. He went on to serve as executive coordinator for MTM Records before moving his family back to Pocatello.
A radio broadcaster for 20 years, Sanders lends his narrative and vocal talents to the city’s annual Fourth of July celebration, called the Biggest Show in Idaho.
Beverages will be available for purchase and coolers are welcome. Bring a blanket or lawn chair and enjoy a very special evening.
