Glenda Carr one of five ISU professors honored for outstanding public service

Clinical Assistant Pharmacy Professor Glenda Carr is one of five Idaho State University professors to receive the 2013 Outstanding Public Service Award, an honor bestowed upon Glenda Carrfaculty bythe offices of Academic Affairs and Research.

Carr, who earned her pharmacy doctorate at University of Montana, joined ISU in 2002 and teaches on the Meridian campus. She is a founder and co-director of the ISU Community Health Screenings, a partnership with Ada County, Central District Health and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.

The goal of the free screenings is to identify the medical, mental and dental health needs of uninsured adults and refer them to low-cost medical providers for treatment.   Screening services and health education are provided by ISU-Meridian student clinicians under the supervision of faculty, increasing the interdisciplinary educational experience for ISU-Meridian students.

“Student clinicians from various health-science fields have the opportunity to work as a team, improving their understanding of patient care,” said Carr.

Carr is also the faculty adviser for ISU-Meridian’s Professional Pharmacy Student Alliance.  Her duties involve guiding students in community outreach projects for Operation Immunization, Operation Heart, Poison Prevention, Operation Diabetes and other health and advocacy focused projects.

Carr and the other finalists will be honored at a reception in Pocatello on April 24. One will receive the 2013 ISU Distinguished Public Service Award. Other finalists are Scott Anderson, professor of music; Kevin W. Cleveland, associate professor in the pharmacy practice department at the College of Pharmacy; Cathy Kriloff, professor of mathematics; and Kevin Marsh, associate professor and chair of the history department.
