Free HIV testing at ISU-Meridian June 27 for faculty, staff and students
June 21, 2012
National HIV Testing Day is Wednesday, June 27, and ISU-Meridian will offer free, rapid HIV tests to faculty, staff and students. The message is “Take the Test, Take Control,” according to organizers.
The confidential test is performed orally and doesn’t require a blood draw. Results are available within 20 minutes. Call Judy Thorne, ISU-Meridian’s HIV education coordinator at 208-373-1710 to schedule an appointment.
Nearly 1.2 million people are living with HIV—the AIDS virus—in the U.S., and almost one in five don’t know they are infected.
Various national and local organizations, including the National Association of People With AIDS, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and AIDS.gov, organized National HIV Testing Day in response to the growing number of HIV infections in heavily impacted communities, according to Thorne.
