ISU-Meridian faculty and students to conduct free health screenings Sept. 24

Uninsured or out-of-work? Don’t ignore your health because you can’t afford a doctor or dentist.

Faculty and students from Idaho State University-Meridian Health Science Center will conduct free health screenings Friday, Sept. 24 for low-income adults with no insurance or limited access to preventive health care. The time is 3-6 p.m. and location is Unity Health Center, 745 S. Progress Ave., in Meridian.

 “This is more than a health fair,” said Dr. Glenda Carr, an ISU assistant pharmacy professor.  “We are not merely giving out information, but screening for health conditions and doing brief, non-invasive physical exams.” 

The screening process will take about an hour and will include a blood pressure check, medication review, foot exam, hearing and depression screening, on-site testing for blood sugar levels and HIV, and a dental evaluation. Flu, hepatitis A and B vaccinations will also be offered.

Partners include Central District Health, Ada County, and the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare.  The Sept. 24 screening is one of three that will be offered in the Treasure Valley this fall. Call 373-1840 for more information.
