Kasiska College of Health Professions Honors ISU-Boise's Karen Monaghan with Distinguished Graduate Award

Monaghan, who will complete her master’s degree in speech-language pathology this summer, is one of three health professions students to receive the award.

“The past three years at ISU have been an amazing journey for me. I have learned so much about helping individuals with communication disorders, and I’m looking forward to applying this knowledge in clinical practice,” said Monaghan.

A classical studies scholar and former middle school teacher, Monaghan’s goal is to work with adults who have acquired brain injuries and communication disorders.

Faculty members nominate students for the Distinguished Graduate Award, and the final selection is made by the Kasiska College Dean’s Advisory Board, which is made up of alumni and supporters.

 “The purpose is to honor students who demonstrate the potential to distinguish themselves professionally upon their graduation from ISU,” said Linda Rankin, Ph.D., professor and assistant dean of the Kasiska College of Health Professions.

Selection criteria include involvement in community and university activities, excellence in clinical and professional skills, support of fellow students, and leadership potential in the community and the profession.
