ISU-Institute of Rural Health and Idaho Bioterrorism Awareness and Preparedness Program to Offer Training Sessions in Treasure Valley

Boise- Preparing a health-care facility for a disaster or a bioterrorism event will be discussed in training sessions throughout Idaho on March 12, 19 and 26.

Idaho State University's Institute of Rural Health will offer the Treasure Valley sessions at ISU-Meridian, 12301 W. Explorer Dr., Room 143, from 1-3 p.m.

The training will provide medical and public-health professionals with detailed information on how to recognize and manage biological/chemical and natural disasters.

Experts from the U.S. Army Medical Research and Material Command, the Department of Defense, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, and the Medical Group Management Association will present the programs.

• March 12 – “The Psychological Effects of Bioterrorism in a Healthcare Setting” presented by LTC. Ross Pastel, Ph.D.; USAMRMC Medical Liaison Officer to Rapid Equipping force and PEO-Soldier.

• March 19 –   “ Preparing Your Practice for a Disaster and Emergency Event” presented by David N. Gans, MSHA, FACMPE; Vice President, Practice Management Resources, MGM.

• March 26 – “Medical Management of Bio-Terrorism Casualties” presented by COL. Ted Cieslak, M.D., Dept. of Defense Liaison Officer, Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

Other locations include Caldwell, Pocatello, Idaho Falls, Twin Falls, Lewiston and Coeur d’ Alene.

Medical care providers, first responders, health-care administrators and others who would assist in recognizing and managing casualties during a biological, chemical or natural disaster are encouraged to attend.
