Idaho State University-Boise adds Online Fire Service Administration Degree
August 5, 2008
If you’re thinking of a career in firefighting or firefighting management, consider Idaho State University’s new online Associate of Science degree in fire services administration.
ISU’s College of Technology is offering the two-year degree this fall. Enrollment is underway, and classes will begin Aug. 25, according to program adviser Michael Mikitish, director of ISU-Boise’s Institute of Emergency Management.
The entire degree will be offered online, and requires no admission prerequisites, says Mikitish, noting the curriculum is sanctioned by the National Fire Academy through its Fire and Emergency Services Higher Education program called FESHE.
Mikitish says ISU is the only public university in Idaho to offer the Associate of Science degree in fire services administration. Coursework will emphasize critical-thinking skills that will prepare graduates for careers in management, leadership and emergency response.
In fall 2009, ISU plans to offer the Bachelor of Science degree in fire services administration.
