ISU-Boise's Pam Powell named a Health Care Hero finalist; Nursing student Robert Warrick awarded $1,000 scholarship

Boise- Pam Powell, DMD, site director of Idaho State University Family Dentistry in Boise, has been named a 2007 Health Care Hero Educator honoree in the Idaho Business Review newspaper’s annual competition.

In addition, ISU-Boise fast-track nursing student Robert Warrick is the first recipient of the Health Care Heroes Scholarship, a $1,000 award made to a health sciences student who demonstrates need and academic excellence.

The two were among two dozen finalists honored at a dinner Sept. 20 at the Doubletree-Riverside in Garden City. Powell and Warrick are featured in a magazine supplement in the  Sept. 24 edition of the Idaho Business Review. Linda Hatzenbuehler, PhD, dean of the Kasiska College of Health Professions, was a guest speaker at the dinner.

Powell was honored for mentoring first-year dentists, who spend a year studying advanced dentistry techniques at the Boise clinic, and for her work organizing the clinic’s Give a Kid a Smile Day. Powell and her staff provide free dental care for Treasure Valley youngsters on that day, which coincides with national Give a Kid a Smile Day.

Warrick, a 4.0 student, will graduate from ISU-Boise’s fast-track nursing program in May. He already holds a master’s degree in public administration from University of Alaska, Anchorage.

Idaho State University is a presenting sponsor of the Health Care Heroes’ program, which honors Idaho health-care practitioners, providers, educators and volunteers who’ve demonstrated extraordinary commitment and dedication to their communities. Candidates are nominated by their peers and judged by an independent panel.
