Idaho State University Boise Center Enrollment Jumps 56 Percent

Boise – Growing demand for health care professionals has led to a 56 percent increase in enrollment over last spring, for an official tally of 330 students.

“This is the highest enrollment in the history of the Boise Center,” said Robin Dodson, chief academic officer. “Our graduates are helping to fill the demand for health care professionals in the Treasure Valley and the entire state.”

Enrollment of new students increased by 119, up 56% percent over spring 2004, and increased by 113, up 52 percent over fall 2003. “Our programs have incredible potential,” said Dodson. “For example, we have 59 applicants for 20 available spots in our January 2005 Fast Track nursing program.”

ISU Boise Center will begin offering counseling services for Treasure Valley residents Oct. 1. Second- and third-year master’s level students will counsel couples, individuals and families. Fees will be based on a sliding scale.

The Boise Center will implement a general dentistry residency program in fall 2005.

“Thanks to the help of the dental and medical community, this program will become a reality,” said Dodson. “ISU will continue to increase program offerings as quickly as our resources allow.”

The ISU Boise Center offers the associate of science in paramedic; the Bachelor of Science in speech-language pathology, nursing fast track, and clinical laboratory science; master’s programs in nursing, speech-language pathology, clinical laboratory science, counseling in mental health and marriage and family, geology, physical education, athletic administration, public health, dietetic internship, and third and fourth-year pharmacy rotations.
