Fall 2017 Campus Trainings

TOPIC: University Identification Standards and Style Guide

PRESENTER: Stuart Summers, Associate Vice President

DATE: Tuesday, September 5

LOCATION: South Fork

TIME: 11 am

LENGTH: 45 minutes

This 45-minute training will introduce the campus community to the recently updated and revised University Identification Standards and Style Guide. The 45-minute session will address logos, colors, promotional giveaways, licensed apparel, social media, web standards, public relations, advertising, etc. Participants will also come away from the training with a solid understanding of the services and support opportunities provided by the Office of Marketing and Communications.

 

 

TOPIC: What To Do When The Media Calls

The phone rings and a reporter is on the other end with a long list of questions. What do you do first? This training will go over the basics of handling media relations, including when to coordinate with the Office of Marketing and Communications. Participants will come away from this training with a solid understanding of how to effectively answer media inquiries and when it’s appropriate to say “no comment.”

 

 

TOPIC: How To Fit Social Media Into Your Workflow

One of the biggest challenges in effectively managing social media is finding the time to execute. This training will discuss tips and tricks to save time on the front-end, which will allow you to be more proactive versus reactive as you plan your content. TOPIC: Recruitment Print Materials

The methods used a year ago to reach traditional and nontraditional students are no longer relevant. As digital communications and social media become a priority, what role should printed recruitment materials play? This training will discuss higher education trends, communication plans and what makes memorable content. This training is for anyone on campus with a role in recruitment, graphic design or outreach communications.

 

 

TOPIC: The New Age of Press Releases

Advertisements are easy to ignore because we see so many each day. An advertisement doesn’t need to attract everyone, but it must catch the eye of the right people. Learn to think through the details and organization of a print ad to ensure goals are met.

Imagine what it would be like if you couldn’t use a mouse, hear the audio of a video or see text and graphics. That’s what some web users experience daily on the internet. If disabled users find it difficult to access your information, they may go elsewhere. Making your information accessible is not only good practice but a legal obligation of ISU. This training will show examples of how disability software works on the web and discuss best practices to keep your site compliant.

 

 

TOPIC: Video 101: Get Shooting Today!

Are photos and text not able to tell the story you want to share? Video is a powerful storytelling medium, but just thinking about it can be overwhelming. In this presentation, we’ll talk about the basics of shooting good video, go over equipment (yes, even cellphones!), and discuss best practices to make your video stand out in a crowded world.

 

 

TOPIC: Photography Tips For A Rookie
