Department Mail
Campus Mail Pickup Times:
Campus delivery and pickup begins at 8 a.m. Monday - Friday. Mail is delivered and picked up from pre-designated department locations (typically the main office). Mail Routes are completed and outgoing mail processed by 11 a.m. each morning.
For high priority intercampus delivery (same day services) please call us at (208) 282-3685. Items of this type may be subject to a rush delivery fee.
Sorting and Bundling Mail:
For ease of processing we ask that all departments separate and band mail into the following categories:
- Small Campus Mail
- Large Campus Mail
- Outgoing Mail (Domestic)
- Outgoing Mail (International)
Off Campus Mail:
For all outgoing mail, please ensure that the department’s index code is included on the mail piece. If index code is missing, mail will be returned the next business day. All outgoing mail from the university must include a properly formatted return address. Use the following return address format for mailings:
[Name] (Optional)
[Department Name]
Idaho State University
Stop [XXXX]
921 S 8th Ave
Pocatello, ID 83209-0002
Receiving Department Mail:
When giving out your campus address please use the same format as found above. This address will ensure that your mail and packages are received and processed in a timely manner. Please do not use your physical address.
Large or Heavy Items:
When receiving large or heavy items, freight shipments or items purchased using a Purchase Order, please use the following address for Central Receiving.
[Name] (Optional)
[Department Name]
[Stop Number]
Idaho State University
638 E Dunn St
Pocatello, ID 83209-0002
Larger items sent to the Mail Center will be redirected to receiving for final processing and delivery. Smaller items not purchased on a Purchase Order will be redirected by Central Receiving to the Mail Center. This may cause a delay in receiving your items. Please double check the shipping address for your items.
Receiving Department Packages:
Generally, packages delivered to the Mail Center are delivered to their intended department office the same day they arrive with the exception of packages over the standard delivery limit, or items that are received after 12:30 pm. Items received after this time will be held for delivery until the next business day. For larger packages, see Large or Heavy Items for the standard handling procedure.
A valid photo ID is required when picking up packages. Without the ID, the Mail Center is not authorized to release the package. Written permission is required to release a package to another individual. Written permission may be provided by responding to the Package Notification Email. Packages are held at the Mail Center for 10 business days then returned to the sender.
Receiving Personal Mail:
Faculty and staff may receive personal mail with the rental of a personal mail box. Personal mail should not be sent to the department stop number.
Business Reply Mail (BRM):
Business Reply Mail allows departments to include return envelopes in outgoing mail. Postage is paid on all items returned to the department. The sender guarantees the payment of the appropriate First Class postage and handling fee (assessed by the U.S. Postal Service). BRM postage and handling fees are billed back to departments using a department index code (generally printed on the BRM envelope).
For more information on BRM Mail and how to have envelopes designed and printed, please contact the Mail Center at 208-282-3685.
